Video and still images

A selection of video clips demonstrating chemical changes can be downloaded by clicking the link below. This downloads a large (6.8 Mb) file and so is best done using a fast connection. The downloaded file is a self-extracting "zip" file. When this is double clicked it will place a folder containing several "avi" video clips and Word documents wherever you specify on your computer.

The clips cover the following experiments:

* carbonyls with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine

* cyclohexane, cyclohexene and phenol with bromine water

* silver mirror test with propanal and propanone

* solid halides with concentrated sulphuric acid

* thermal decomposition of the hydrogen halides

* transition metal ions with NaOH (aq)

The link below allows a self-extracting zip file containing the sample video clips to be downloaded. When you follow this link your computer should prompt you to choose a location to save the file. Either accept the default (noting where it is!) or select your own choice of destination. If you have any difficulty let me know via the "Contact us" button on each page of this site.

The clips were provided courtesy of Dr Mike Docker from Farnborough Sixth Form College and are part of a larger collection of similar clips that he publishs on a CD ROM. More details may be found on his "Video Resources for A level" website at www.mpdocker.demon.co.uk
