About ChemIT
The Project
The original version of ChemIT grew out of a Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Fellowship project undertaken by Steve Lewis, Head of Chemistry at Shrewsbury SIxth Form College, Shropshire, UK. The website was developed to support a handbook entitled "Using ICT to enhance teaching and learning in chemistry" which was published by the RSC in 2004. This is now out of print, but a copy was sent to every school and college in the UK at the time of its publication.
Electronic (pdf) versions of the sections from the RSC Teacher Fellow book may be viewed or downloaded: Contents here; Integrating ICT here;
Types of ICT resource here; ICT Skills for teachers of chemistry here.
The current version of the website contains the original project material but has been significantly upgraded: it has new resources, is designed to be much more accessible and now aims to include discussion about how most effectively to use ICT to enhance the teaching of Chemistry.
The Technology
ChemIT has been built primarily using Microsoft ASP.NET MVC, JQuery, N2 CMS and Microsoft SQL Server.
The site was built using Agile methods, Unfuddle and Agile Zen were used to manage the development.
The web designer is Jon Hilton.
